Browser Auto Text Expander (TE) & TE other uses
Firefox Auto Text Expander
There is a Firefox auto text expander plugin that was modified from Chrome and it may have some uses for filling out forms online and other places like blogs and wordpress where you may want to use some autoexpand (currently setup in aText).I thought it was worth mentioning, but I’m using aText that sort of covers this anyway, may be useful on computers with no autoExpander.
Text Expander Examples Video for ideas
This video by chap who uses Apple text Expander and a couple of good ideas from him:
- Shortcodes in WordPress for buttons etc- I really like the idea of this
- UTM codes- I have another post about this
- A way to scrape an email to put personal name into email- I like the idea of it, I should explore to see if I can get this to work.
Keyboard Shortcuts and Shortcodes for WordPress
I’ve been using the “/” for gutenburg shortcuts and it works reasonably well apart from conflict with aText “/” that I use for scripts. I’ve got to find a different trigger for them as it’s a bit of a conflict. I need to adjust the aText one as I use them less frequently.
I’m starting to use the Shift+Alt+H to lookup the shortcuts but there are not many of them.
Shortcode Ultimate plugin Examples for aText
From the video above I created and tested examples that I could use in aText to speed up WordPress. I’ve been testing a few of these in examples below and tweaking them to added a few of these so I get something that I like, I’ll try to start using them in my posts in future.
The Shortcodes are good in that you can combine some of them together (some you can’t) and I want to use them in the basic setup I have to date. There is a further styling adaptation that you can do with added CSS, but I haven’t explored that yet, it might be handy for further styling and color in the future.
The 3 shortcodes below with aText work for 1/ highlighting text, 2/Adding a simple button to a link, and 3/ a YouTube video, they seem to be just some of the things you can do. See list below, note highlighted ones you have to pay for. The scheduler one looks interesting, worth playing with.
There are a few tutorials on YouTube about it so can explore some more. You do seem to need spacer or else they all stick together.

Of the new cases, 56 are in Auckland, but due to a “technical issue” a further 40 cases weren’t counted and will be reported on Monday, the Ministry of Health said in a statement on Sunday.
- Covid-19: 97 new community cases, seven people in hospital with virus
- Two services divided by a locked door: how churches are adapting to worshipping under a red light

I have enjoyed playing with the Shortcode Ultimate plugin. I hope my future posts will have more of their features in future.
I’m a bit disappointed with their Header shortcode, its pretty boring, still this may be a method to encourage people to purchase the premium add ons.
I’d like to find an occasion to use the scheduler, that seems to be a pretty cool feature.
I might start playing with the gallery and lightbox feature a bit more to see how they work. I’ve stayed away from those in the past. Also the double columns as well.
