I have used shortcuts on the desktops for items I have on the task bar and then dragged them onto the wheel. They then stay on the dock bar. I’ve also used a hotkey combination to access it, and disabled the mouse activation, although you can use a mouse button such as Middle Button, but I’m using that for Quick Access Popup menu. You can also activate it by taking mouse to edge of screen, you can dictate which edge activates it (L/R/Top/Bottom). Quite fun and pretty. Its a bit like Rocket Dock but a bit more active in its location (as with hotkey it opens where mouse cursor is (you can preset/dock to say Middle of screen if you want).

I went to a WOSSAT -Wellington Open Source Show And Tell

which had some lightning talks on some things people were doing withj open source software. Two particular subjects I thought were quite interesting. One was on using Python and Open Street Map for finding distances to Playgrounds, a second was on using QGis for mapping where a cat went with a GIS collar, later a further talk using QGis and looking at network systems a land parcels for a city council.

QGIS-V3.4 Madeira

The first I’m still trying to load the appropriate packages into Python (no success to date)- My interest is in trying to learn how to calculate a distance along a road network between 2 points (rather than direct distance).

At the end of the 2nd QGis talk I remarked on the speed of the presenters computer as I said that I found QGis exceedingly slow.

Several people said that it had been updated and was a lot faster, I was still thinking of the Essen Version (about V2.14).

I downloaded 3.4 Madeira version, and looking on Wikipedia site it looks like there will be a new version out 3.6 Noosa in the next couple of days.

The 3 version seem to be written in Python 3 rather than python 2.7 so are faster because of it.
